| Here's some info about our rescue and how we came about.... | |
Hello to all you fellow animal lovers out there!! My name is Kim and I love animals too! I am an avid nature lover,
adore gardening, and just about anything outdoors. Hiking, horseback riding, and collecting Breyer horses I do in my
spare time, which is almost never now! I have worked with animals all my life. I have spent most of my adult life as
a veterinary technician, so I'm very familiar with all the needs and traumas (and joys!) of owning a pet, and most definitely
a multi-pet household! I have owned and operated my own USDA-AKC kennel many years ago and I have also worked with and
for other kennels as well with a wide variety of dog breeds. I've even worked a dog auction, which had to be about
the saddest thing ever. About the only thing I haven't done is work in a pet store, which I'm not fond of either,
although I am a frequest customer for those special pet items my guys just have to have! I have a B.S. degree in Biology
and I had always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian (I still may do so before I'm eighty!), but my life has since been
guided in a new direction with helping animals in a different capacity, which has led me to rescue work. I am licensed
(with my very patient husband) in the State of Missouri for animal rescue. We do not believe in cages and pens for the
dogs (although we are required by the state to have them), and instead believe in them being in a normal household setting,
indoors, with crate-training a key component to success as every dog we adopt out is started on crate-training and housebreaking
etiquette. Therefore, we share our home with numerous rescue dogs when we have the space, along with
our own personal dogs, 8 birds, 3 aquariums full of fish, 3 or 4 cats (whoever shows up!), and our beautiful 10 year old daughter,
Kaitlyn. We've always said that this is the dogs' house and they just let US live here! We
always strive to improve ourselves and the lives of the animals we help. It's a sad fact that our help is needed
is such a way, but animals are our life and we feel anything we can do to give even just a little back is more rewarding than
anything we've ever done. It's hard work, and can be heartbreaking; however, the benefits are more than worth
the risks. This is what we do and it's "just us." OUR HERD I won't list all the guys right
now because we have quite a few! However, some of them we just have to talk about....number one has to be our "Dexter,"
a 250# English Mastiff (he's the big "ham," and he was formerly a rescue dog that stayed with us)he is getting
quite old now; his favorite buddy is "Jorge," a tiny Teacup Chihuahua who uses Dex as his special pet bed (we have
the pics to prove it)! Of course, there's also our Whippets who love to run (they are near and dear to our hearts)
along with "Bridget" the elderly Greyhound whose favorite place to be is on the sofa, on her back, with all 4 legs
straight up in the air!! Those are just a few examples of some of our own canine "fur buddies" here.
Our Blue-Front Amazon, "Bozo," is quite the "dog" bird too...he loves to bark!! He talks when
he wants to, but has figured out that anything that barks around here gets lots of attention! He keeps watch over the
rest of the gang here.... | | AFTER
A LONG DAY AT WORK...... |
| My
husband, Marcus, and some of our "doggie" friends | | What a job!
Marcus hates that I use this photo, but I think it's a great
example of what it's really like here, all the time...this was candid camera moment and I took it.......this is a common
daily occurence around here. If you expect to get a pet from us that ISN'T comfortable on the sofa, then one of ours is
not for you!! Ours are part of the family, and they know it!! | |

is my all-time favorite poem. I first read it a James Herriot book and decided then and there I wanted to be a vet.
ALL THINGS BRIGHT AND BEAUTEOUS (This is the original 1848 Version by Cecil Frances Alexander) ALL
things bright and beauteous, All creatures great and small, All things wise
and wondrous, The LORD GOD made them all. Each
little flower that opens, Each little bird that sings, He made their glowing
colours, He made their tiny wings. The rich
man in his castle, The poor man at his gate, GOD made them, high or lowly,
And ordered their estate. The purple-headed mountain,
The river running by, The sunset, and the morning, That
brightens up the sky. The cold wind in the winter, The
pleasant summer sun, The ripe fruits in the garden, He made them every one.
The tall trees in the greenwood, The meadows where
we play, The rushes by the water, We gather every day;--
He gave us eyes to see them, And lips that we might tell, How
great is GOD Almightly, Who has made all things well.
Here's a list of some of my favorite movies:

Homeward Bound, Dr. Doolittle
Here's a list of some of my favorite music:

Or anything you can understand the words to... |
